Folly Design Studio is led by Canadian-Guyanese designer and ceramic artist Tatiana (pronounced “Tash-e-ana”) Smith-St Kitts. Her practice centres on handcrafted ceramics made for interior spaces. With a foundation in interior design, she brings a refined understanding of craft and rawness to her work. A desire to reconnect with tactility and the instinctive nature of making drew her toward ceramics. 

Tatiana started working with clay in 2021 after enrolling in an evening pottery course in a local Dublin studio where she is based. Shortly after, she secured a work apprenticeship in a pottery studio in Crete for 3 months. From there, her love and foundation with clay was formed, she has been diving deep into the world of ceramics ever since.

Her studio’s name draws from the concept of a folly — a decorative building built purely for aesthetic pleasure, often to add interest to a landscape for others to admire. In a similar way, her ceramics aim to bring joy, beauty, and a sense of wonder to the spaces they inhabit.

Inspired by movement and textures found within nature and human forms, she blends the precision of design with the organic language of clay—shaping vessels that express undulating curves and forms. Through her work, she invites viewers to connect with the fluidity between function, form, and play.

She teaches at ceramic studios in Dublin, including currently Throwing Shapes, St Colmcilles Adult Education and previously Arran Street East. Stay tuned for classes within her private studio very soon!
